Abundance apple harvest

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

On Saturday 24th October a group of Abundance members spent the day roaming the countryside & picking apples from ‘wild’ trees that would otherwise go to waste.

We spent an evening washing the fruits of our labour in a bath tub with ‘Veggiwash’ to get rid of the mud and beasties in readiness for the big juicing day.

Join Abundance Kendal’s inaugural harvest event, Sunday 6th September 2009 in the Lyth Valley.

Abundance is a new group set up by the Food and Agriculture Sub Group of Transition South Lakes. The aim of Abundance is to harvest unwanted fruit from around the Kendal area.

Wild damsons grow in the Lyth Valley and have long been part of the cultural heritage of the area. Help keep the traditional damson harvest alive in Cumbria.  Damsons are full of vitamin C and can be made into very tasty jam, pickle, wine etc, and add a wonderful flavour to gin!

Come along on Sunday from 10am for the day. Bring wellies and a picnic lunch. RSVP asap. Lifts may be available from Kendal. Pickers get paid in fruit!
