Should Cumbria Become a Nuclear Dumping Ground?
Friends Meeting House (Quaker Tapestry), Kendal,
Thurs 2nd Dec, 7:15pm

Cumbria is currently on the cards for a deep nuclear waste dump, despite previous government research showing that the techniques for predicting how leaky such a dump would be are hugely unreliable and inaccurate. Even if these problems were sorted out, the geology in Cumbria mean that it would be practically the last place you would want such a dump. As well as the deep dump: planning applications for nuke landfill in Cumbria are already in the pipeline. Recent changes to the rules mean that Cumbria may end up being lumbered with RadWaste from the clearance of old reactor sites all over the country.

Dr Rachel Western (nuclear consultant for Greenpeace) and Rory Walker (Stop Nuclear) will outline the reality behind the proposals and the case for why Cumbria is totally unsuitable for nuclear waste disposal.

This is a chance to get up to date on the issue, find out exactly what is planned for Cumbria and what you can do about it.

Refreshments will be available.
